Events dont come short in this hospitable village. One can say that there is always something going on during the year. Probably the most popular of these is the 'Lejla Mgarrija' an agricultural festival held in August that has been going for the past 24 years and has drawn to it thousands of people from all over the world. Such is the uniqueness of this festival that Mgarr was chosen to recreate a smaller version of thie Lejla Mgarrija for the visit of the CHOGM entourage in 2005.

Probably the most impressive display is that of the 'Giant Pumpkins' which are grown organically to extraordinary proportions, well exceeding the 100kg mark!!

Being an extremely tight knit community, Mgarr and its inhabitants (Imgarrin) are always ready to help voluntarily in a variety of things, from the festa preparations to campaigns like 'clean up the world'.

With such a large number of people taking part in these events, the Local Council has developed a night called 'Gieh Mgarr' which is aimed to congratulate and thank those outstandingt individuals that the community itself chooses to nominate. The sorting process is a very difficult one as the number of nominations increases every year and the Council has the very difficult task of finally deciding who will receive the hounour of 'Gieh Mgarr' and 'Rikonoxximent'.

This evening (usually held in February) is enhanced by a variety of musical and artistic displays that aid in making this event a very important, almost precious one for Mgarr.

July marks the much awaited time for the traditional 'St. John's Bonfire' which adornes the village square with colourful flags and traditional costumes from the times of the Knights of St. John.

The traditional Maltese wedding has changed greatly over the years and many practices have been lost through the years. This is why in Mgarr a re enactment of the traditional wedding is held yearly, ensuring that this piece of Maltese culture and history does not disappear totally.
